Preparedness for Calls You Don't Expect

Class Synopsis

Firearms Awareness Training for Fire, EMS, and Rescue Personnel

First responders often face unpredictable scenes—and sometimes, that includes firearms. Our Firearms Awareness for First Responders course is designed for fire departments, EMS crews, and rescue teams who may encounter firearms during routine calls such as medical emergencies, welfare checks, or rescue situations.

This class covers:

  • Firearm recognition – Learn how to safely identify common handguns, rifles, and shotguns
  • Scene safety – Understand safe positioning and movement when firearms are present
  • Secure handling basics – How to prevent accidental discharge without endangering yourself, your team, or public
  • Communication – How to coordinate with dispatch and law enforcement regarding firearms on scene
  • Legal considerations – Basic knowledge of handling a call where firearms are present

Unlike active shooter training for police, this course focuses on non-tactical, safety-oriented skills for civilian first responders.

Who should attend: Firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, search & rescue volunteers, and other first responders who want to work confidently around firearms while prioritizing safety and patient care.
